Creamy porridge with cinnamon apples

If you wake up already thinking about what you should or shouldn’t eat today, you’re not alone.

For many of my clients, mornings can feel like the starting point of a mental tug-of-war with food- especially if you’re carrying guilt from the night before or feel pressure to “be good”.

This is where simple, satisfying meals—like this creamy porridge with cinnamon apples—can help reduce food noise from the very start of your day.

They’re warm, gently sweet, and balanced with slow-releasing energy, fibre and healthy fats. No moral labels, no perfection required- just a comforting breakfast that gives your body what it needs and gives your mind a little space to breathe.

Because the less time you spend battling with food, the more energy you have for everything else.

Why it works: Warm, slow-releasing carbs with protein and healthy fats = a great food noise-reducing breakfast. Comforting and very grounding.

Serves: 1 (Simply multiply for more portions)

  • 40g Oats
  • 20g sultanas
  • 315mls milk
  • 10g ground linseeds

For the Apples

  • 2 apples, peeled, cored and chopped into small chunks
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • Splash of water
  1. To cook the apples, add them to a small pan with the cinnamon and a splash of water. Cover with a lid and slowly simmer the mixture over a low heat, for around 10 minutes, until the apples soften, but still have some bite, you may need to add some more water if the mixture is getting too dry. This can be made in advance and reheated or eaten cold/room temperature when needed.
  2. Add the oats, sultanas and milk into a microwavable bowl and microwave for around 3 minutes -until cooked and creamy (the oats may be a little loose at this stage as the linseeds will thicken the mixture up)
  3. Mix in the ground linseeds and pour into a bowl
  4. Add half of the cooked apple mix (save the other half for the next day)
  5. Serve and enjoy!


🍽️ Kate’s Top Tip: The fruit compote tastes great with yogurt as a tasty dessert, or add some nuts, seeds or muesli for another delicious breakfast option. Or you can mix apples and pears to get more variety of fruits.
